4) NICE AND SLOW

Once you have a “flat” surface, take your time and slowly sand to a smooth finish on that face. Working with figured maple for this piece also caused me to take my time. Maple burns quickly and then it’s even harder to sand the burn marks out.

5) VOILA!

With a little patience and a deft touch, the sides start to flatten and the grain begins to show its lustre.

6) SQUARE

I should have mentioned that there’s more to this cube than getting the surfaces flat. They also need to be square to one another. An engineers’ square will give you a quick look at how you’re doing.
